Walk and Talk Therapy by Bmindful Psychotherapists in Ottawa
Walk and Talk Therapy (WTT) incorporates concepts of ecopsychology to commonly used evidence-based therapy practices such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Nature is a source of renewal and positive change. Nature-based therapy is a powerful vehicle that can connect your inner experiences, thoughts and emotions, to the outer world. It allows you and your therapist to use plants and nature as a silent and active partner in the therapeutic process to foster self-understanding and growth.
What to Expect
The initial intake and assessment is scheduled indoors in your therapist office. Subsequent 50-min sessions occur outdoors in a designated agreed upon area (e.g. walking trail or community park) where you can walk and talk in a safe and comfortable public space.
WTT shifts the focus of therapy in an environment that can allow you to put into practice behavioral goals and strategies discussed in sessions. Nature-based therapy connects you to nature while allowing you to navigate emotions and thoughts in a public outdoor space. WTT encourages activation of therapeutic goals and may feel like you are taking a step forward and putting what you talk about in therapy into action.

“Just as clouds moving across a vast spacious sky are sometimes dark and stormy, sometimes light and fluffy, so thoughts take different forms. Sometimes clouds fill the entire sky. Sometimes they clear out completely, leaving the sky cloudless.”
Mark Williams, Mindfulness: A practical guide to peace in a frantic world (2011)
