We are a group of highly trained independent professionals in Ottawa, who also work(ed) at Carleton University, Algonquin College and at CHEO. We use Third Wave Cognitive Therapeutic Approaches to treat anxiety, depression, ASD, ADHD, and life challenges such as burnout, academic stress, life dissatisfaction, parenting stress, or chronic pain or menopausal symptoms management.
Introduction to MBCT
MBCT is an evidence-based 8-week program designed to help individuals who suffer repeated bouts of depression. MBCT combines cognitive therapy with principles and practices of mindfulness. The main focus of MBCT is to bring awareness to different mind states, such as rumination, that often underline mood disorders and increases the vulnerability to recurring depressive episodes. The practice of mindfulness facilitates present moment awareness and ability to shift attention, suspend judgment and evaluation, thus increasing psychological flexibility and well-being.
MBCT focuses on psycho-educational material on the characteristics of depression, experiential exercises, and reflective exercises. MBCT was developed by Zindel Segal, Mark Williams and John Teasdale, based on Jon Kabat-Zinn’s Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program. We regularly offer the MBCT program and we also incorporate mindfulness training into individual sessions. For more information please visit our workshop section.
